🇫🇷 French Perfumes!😶‍🌫 Long Lasting and Intense Scents!👍 Fraction of the Cost of Designer Fragrances

PRODUCT DETAILS

Bakar is an eau de parfum, 50 ml, with around 20% fragrance oil. It costs €25, an affordable price fixed across our whole range, whichever house inspired the bottle. Free shipping applies from €49 and delivery takes 2 to 5 working days.

Baccarat Rouge 540 is sold as an eau de parfum, and Bakar matches that concentration rather than a lighter eau de toilette, so expect a dense, resinous scent rather than something airy, closer to how Baccarat Rouge 540 itself wears than a diluted fragrance would.

Longevity runs 5 to 10 hours on skin. Handmade in small batches with French oils, vegan and cruelty free. You get 15 days to exchange it if the bottle isn't right for you.

NOTES

Top notes

Saffron, jasmine

Heart notes

Amberwood, ambergris, hedione

Base notes

Fir resin, cedar, sugar, ambroxan, moss

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Bakar is our perfume dupe of Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540, built for anyone who has smelled the original on someone else and wanted something that smells like it. It opens with saffron and jasmine, the middle notes bring amberwood, ambergris and hedione, then it settles into fir resin, cedar, sugar, ambroxan and moss.

The saffron and amberwood accord is what people notice first, warm and faintly sweet rather than sharp or medicinal. Sillage is generous without being overwhelming, and projection stays strong through the opening stretch before the fragrance settles closer to the skin. As a fragrance dupe it leans into that same resinous warmth rather than matching every note in the accord one for one. Bakar reads as unisex, and it suits an everyday spray as easily as a night out.

It smells very good. It lasted few hours on my skin.

Perfume concentration

EDT, EDP or EXDP - what you are actually buying

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

How a perfume is measured

Longevity, projection and sillage

Three things describe every perfume, whatever the price or the name on the bottle. Once you separate them, it is easier to say what you actually want from a scent.

01

Longevity

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

02

Projection

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

03

Sillage

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

That is why every one of our perfume descriptions says how it wears, not only how it smells.

Bakar

Inspired by: Baccarat Rouge 540, Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Bakar works any time of year, though it comes alive in winter and the colder months, when the amberwood and fir resin have something to hold onto. In summer the saffron and jasmine keep it from turning heavy, so one spray in the morning is usually enough to last.

It moves easily between an office day and an evening out, and it isn't tied to a masculine or feminine label. It's as much a scent for him as for her, and it belongs with the resinous, amber fragrances we make rather than the fresh, citrus ones.

Choose our Inspiration

Maison Francis Kurkdjian, often shortened to MFK, is a niche French perfume house, founded in 2009 by the perfumer of the same name after years spent creating scents for major fashion labels. Baccarat Rouge 540 launched in 2015, named after the crystal house behind its bottle, and quickly turned into one of the most talked-about releases in modern, luxury perfumery.

People rarely use the full name. On forums and in shops it is usually just Baccarat Rouge, or the shorthand BR540, and that recognition is exactly what drives the market for so many perfume dupes built around it. Search for Baccarat Rouge 540 and you will turn up dozens of alternative perfumes and outright dupes, though the saffron and amberwood accord is the hardest part of any Baccarat Rouge 540 alternative to get right.

Why choose us?

Bakar isn't a one-note clone. It's our alternative to Baccarat Rouge 540, our own blend built to smell similar to the original's warm, resinous character, made with French fragrance oils and filled by hand in small batches.

We only make it as an eau de parfum, since that concentration gives the saffron, cedar and amberwood accord room to develop the way it should, holding onto its notes longer than a lighter alternative would. If it doesn't smell close enough to what you remember, you have 15 days to send it back for an exchange.
