Ganymede itself is sold as an eau de parfum, so Auroras matches that concentration rather than a lighter eau de toilette, a thinner eau de cologne or a heavier extrait de parfum.

Longevity runs 6 to 10 hours, long lasting enough to still catch on your scarf the next morning. French fragrance oils, handmade, vegan, cruelty free, and never tested on animals. You get 15 days to exchange it if it does not suit you.

Auroras is our perfume dupe of Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois, made for anyone who already loves that mineral, suede-soft signature and wants it as an everyday bottle instead of one saved for special occasions. Saffron and Italian mandarin open it, Chinese osmanthus, violet and immortelle carry the heart, and it settles into mineral notes, suede, akigalawood, musk, cedar and patchouli.

The suede accord is what people notice first, soft and slightly metallic rather than sweet, with the saffron giving the opening some warmth. It stays close to skin from the first spray, one of those fragrances built to feel like a second skin rather than announce itself across a room, so the trail is quiet but still there hours later.

EDT, EDP or EXDP - what you are actually buying

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

Three things describe every perfume, whatever the price or the name on the bottle. Once you separate them, it is easier to say what you actually want from a scent.

Longevity

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

Projection

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

Sillage

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

That is why every one of our perfume descriptions says how it wears, not only how it smells.

Auroras works in every season, though it comes alive most in the colder months, when the mineral and suede have some cold air to sit inside. One spray is enough for a full day at the office, and it holds up into the evening without needing to be topped up.

Marc-Antoine Barrois built Ganymede without a strict gender line, and Auroras follows the same idea. Some wear it as a masculine signature, others as a feminine one, and most simply treat it as unisex and leave it there, which is how people tend to describe Ganymede itself.

Marc-Antoine Barrois is a French niche house, and Ganymede was the fragrance that put the label on the map outside a small circle of collectors. It reads closer to luxury niche perfumery than to anything on a mainstream designer counter, and the mineral-suede character is what keeps people coming back to it.

Most people just say Ganymede, since Marc-Antoine Barrois is a mouthful in everyday conversation. It stays one of the more requested originals behind the wave of perfume dupes built to chase it, and Auroras is our entry in that group.
