By Kilian sells Black Phantom as an eau de parfum, so Killer Phantom matches that concentration. It's heavier than a splash of eau de cologne but doesn't go as far as a full extrait de parfum, sitting squarely in eau de parfum territory rather than a lighter eau de toilette.

Longevity runs 6 to 10 hours on skin, sometimes longer on clothing. Handmade, vegan and never tested on animals. Not for you? Killer Phantom can be exchanged within 15 days.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Killer Phantom is our perfume dupe of By Kilian Black Phantom, built for anyone who fell for that boozy, gourmand accord and wants to wear it more often than the original allows. It opens on rum, moves into dark chocolate, coffee, almond and heliotrope, and settles into caramel, sugar cane, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean and vetiver.

The first minutes are the boldest part, rich rum and coffee that smells almost edible. Once the dark chocolate settles in, the fragrance turns rounder and sweeter, closer to dessert than to a typical designer scent. People often say it smells like a warm rum cake. Sillage is strong early on and projection calms after the first hour, but the trail stays noticeable well into the evening.

This By Kilian dupe sits in the same rum-and-chocolate fragrance family as Black Phantom, and it is a strong gourmand fragrance even by Kilian's own standards, bolder than most gourmand fragrances on the same shelf. Coffee, almond and caramel keep circling back through every stage, so if you loved those notes in the original Kilian release, this fragrance will feel instantly familiar.

EDT, EDP or EXDP - what you are actually buying

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

Three things describe every perfume, whatever the price or the name on the bottle. Once you separate them, it is easier to say what you actually want from a scent.

Longevity

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

Projection

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

Sillage

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

By Kilian built Black Phantom for men and women alike, and our version follows the same idea. It works for him or for her, closer to unisex than a strictly masculine or feminine fragrance, so treat it as a scent for whoever likes rum and chocolate over florals. That is unisex in the real sense rather than a his-and-hers pair in two bottles, and the caramel-vanilla warmth reads just as well on a heavy winter coat as it does on skin.

By Kilian is a French niche house founded by Kilian Hennessy, known for pairing unusual gourmand accords with sleek, refillable bottles. Black Phantom belongs to the gourmand side of that catalogue and became one of the house's most talked-about releases.

People rarely use the full name. Online it is simply Black Phantom, described as smelling like a rum-soaked dessert, and that reputation is what most perfume dupes on the market are chasing. Think of a clone as chasing the formula and a dupe like ours as chasing the feeling.
