Oud Wood itself is sold as an eau de parfum, so Old Tree matches that concentration rather than the lighter eau de toilette some counters stock, or the heavier extrait de parfum a handful of niche houses push instead. That keeps the wood dense enough to wear the way a luxury oud is supposed to.

Longevity runs 6 to 10 hours, long lasting enough to still show up on a jacket collar the next day. French fragrance oils, handmade, vegan, cruelty free, and never tested on animals. You get 15 days to exchange it if it does not suit you.

Old Tree is our perfume dupe of Oud Wood by Tom Ford, made for anyone who already reaches for that dry, smoky wood signature and wants a bottle they do not have to save for one big night. Rosewood, cardamom and Chinese pepper open it, oud, sandalwood and vetiver carry the heart, and it settles into tonka bean, vanilla and amber.

The oud accord sits at the centre of the whole thing, dry and a little smoky rather than sweet, with the rosewood softening the edges early on. It barely shifts from first spray to dry-down, since Oud Wood was built to read the same at nine in the morning as it does at midnight. It smells like the original at arm's length, stays intense without turning heavy, and the trail is strong enough to notice for hours. This fragrance dupe of Oud Wood belongs to our dry wood family, and among our perfume dupes it is the one where the wood stays dominant from the first spray to the last trace on skin.

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

Three things describe every perfume, whatever the price or the name on the bottle. Once you separate them, it is easier to say what you actually want from a scent.

Longevity

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

Projection

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

Sillage

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

Old Tree works year round, though it comes into its own from autumn into winter, when the dry oud has some cold to cut through. One spray carries through a full day at the office, and it holds up into the evening without needing to be topped up.

Tom Ford built Oud Wood as one of the fragrances that pushed niche oud into the mainstream, and it still reads as a masculine signature more than a feminine one. Plenty of women wear it too, so treat it as near-unisex if that suits you better. Even in high summer a single spray of this wood-forward fragrance holds up, since dry wood does not turn syrupy in heat the way a sweeter base would.

Tom Ford is an American designer house, and Oud Wood belongs to the Private Blend line, the tier where the labels move past the mall counter and into something closer to niche territory. It was one of the fragrances that made oud a word Western shoppers actually recognise, and it remains one of the more requested originals on every list of designer and niche dupes.

Most people just say Oud Wood, since shortening it any further gets confusing next to every other oud on the market. The middle notes of oud and sandalwood are the reason so many alternative versions exist, and Old Tree is simply our own take on that same wood-heavy signature.
