Dark Dance is an eau de parfum, 50 ml, with around 20% fragrance oil. It costs €25, the same as every scent in our range. Free shipping applies from €49 and delivery takes 2 to 5 working days.

Amyris Homme is sold as an eau de parfum, so ours keeps the same concentration, denser than an eau de toilette and nowhere near a light eau de cologne.

Longevity is 5 to 10 hours. French fragrance oils, filled by hand, vegan and never tested on animals. You have 15 days to exchange Dark Dance if it misses the mark.

Dark Dance is one of the more affordable perfumes in how we price things: every fragrance in the collection costs the same €25, whether it is built around a designer bottle or a niche one, and that keeps our list of perfume dupes and alternatives to well-known perfumes simple to shop. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Dark Dance is our perfume dupe of Amyris Homme by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, a woody scent with a quiet gourmand streak running through it. Sicilian mandarin and rosemary open it, the heart holds amyris, iris, milk chocolate, coconut and coffee, and tonka bean, agarwood and oud finish it.

The chocolate and coffee never turn into dessert here. They sit behind the wood and give it depth instead. It wears close to the skin, which suits people who want to be noticed at conversation distance rather than across a room.

Search the name in full, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Homme, and you will find plenty of perfume dupes built the same way ours is. Dark Dance is not a clone stamped from a mould and not a rushed dupe that fades within the hour; it smells like the original from the first spray and wears as a long lasting fragrance rather than a loud one.

Rosemary and iris carry most of the early work. The rosemary keeps the mandarin from turning too sweet, the iris adds a powdery softness once the coconut and tonka bean settle in behind the oud, and the drydown is similar to how most amyris-led scents behave - strong up close, quiet across the room, one of those scents that rewards getting close rather than announcing itself from the doorway.

EDT, EDP or EXDP - what you are actually buying

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

Projection

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

Sillage

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

Dark Dance

Autumn through spring, daytime as easily as evening. The wood keeps it appropriate for the office, and the chocolate keeps it from being boring.

It is a masculine scent by positioning, but the amyris and iris give it enough softness that it works on anyone who likes woody fragrances.

Dark Dance holds up in summer too, since the mandarin keeps the opening light, and it comes fully into its own in winter once the tonka bean and oud settle into the base. We sell it as one of our woody fragrances for men, though plenty of women wear it too for the same gourmand-wood combination, so it reads closer to unisex than strictly for him or for her - the feminine side shows up mostly in the iris and amyris.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian is a French niche house, better known for Baccarat Rouge 540 than for this one. Amyris Homme is the quieter member of the family, built around amyris wood from Haiti.

People search for it as Amyris Homme, and often add the house name because the word amyris on its own returns the raw material.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian sits closer to niche and luxury perfumery than to the big designer counters, and that gap is exactly why a perfume dupe of Amyris Homme gets searched for so often.
