This is an eau de parfum, 50 ml, made with around 20% fragrance oil. It costs €25, the same as every other scent in our range, whatever the original behind it. Free shipping applies from €55 and delivery takes 2 to 5 working days.

La Nuit de l'Homme is sold as an eau de toilette, so Summer Night is built with a higher concentration to hold the cardamom and lavender on the skin for longer than the original manages.

Expect 5 to 10 hours of longevity. We use French fragrance oils, fill every bottle by hand, keep it vegan, and none of it is tested on animals. If it is not right for you, you can exchange it within 15 days.

Summer Night is our perfume dupe of La Nuit de l'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent, built for men who reach for that clean, spiced warmth most days of the week. It opens on cardamom, runs through lavender, Virginia cedar and bergamot, then rests on vetiver and caraway.

It smells like cardamom and warm spice from the very first spray, which is the detail people usually remember about this fragrance. The opening half hour is sharp and slightly peppery, then it softens as the cedar and vetiver settle in, staying close to the skin rather than filling a room.

Purchased in the 1:4 ratio, Summer Night smells warm and spicy without being too overbearing. The dry down has the perfect slight hint of soft sweetness. Lasts 8+ hours after being macerated for a sufficient amount of time. Definitely a masculine scent, I would buy again.

Perfume concentration

EDT, EDP or EXDP - what you are actually buying

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

Longevity, projection and sillage

Three things describe every perfume, whatever the price or the name on the bottle. Once you separate them, it is easier to say what you actually want from a scent.

Longevity

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

Projection

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

Sillage

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

That is why every one of our perfume descriptions says how it wears, not only how it smells.

Summer Night works best from early autumn through to spring, when the cardamom and cedar have cooler air to cut through. It can carry into summer evenings too, though the spice reads a little heavier once the heat sets in, similar to how La Nuit de l'Homme itself wears in warmer months.

It is built as a masculine fragrance for him first, though a few customers who usually reach for women's scents pick it for evenings out as well. Like the rest of our perfume dupes, it stays affordable, and one or two sprays is enough to hold the accord without pushing it too far.

Yves Saint Laurent is a French fashion and fragrance house, and La Nuit de l'Homme launched in 2009 as a lighter, spicier take on the classic YSL man. It has stayed one of the brand's most recognised designer fragrances for men ever since.

Most people shorten the name to La Nuit, or simply describe it as the YSL night fragrance. That is the original behind Summer Night, our own alternative to it, built rather than borrowed.
