Tornado is bottled as a 50 ml eau de parfum with close to 20% fragrance oil. We charge €25 for it, the same as for anything else on the shelf. From €49 the shipping is on us, and delivery runs 2 to 5 working days.

YSL sells L'Homme as an eau de toilette. Tornado is an eau de parfum, so it is built stronger than the original, with more depth and longer wear from the same citrus and woody idea.

Longevity is 5 to 10 hours, and it wears intense enough that one spray carries, in line with our other citrus fragrances. The oils are French, the filling is done by hand, and nothing is tested on animals. Not for you? Tornado can be exchanged within 15 days.

Tornado is our perfume dupe of L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent, made for men who want a citrus scent with more backbone than the usual fresh cologne. It opens on ginger, bergamot and lemon, moves into white pepper, basil, violet leaf and other spicy notes, and settles on cedar, tonka bean and vetiver.

The green, slightly sharp opening is what sets it apart from a plain citrus start. As it dries down the composition turns drier and closer to skin, so a single spray carries from morning into the evening without needing a second application.

YSL fans who go looking for fragrance dupes and clones usually want to know one thing first: does it hold up? It smells like L'Homme closely enough that a written review rarely needs a side by side to make the case. The middle notes of basil and violet leaf keep the citrus accord from fading into something generic, and next to the bottle it stays genuinely similar to the original YSL scent people already know.

The difference between these labels is not quality but how much perfume oil sits in the bottle. That decides how long the scent stays on your skin and how far it travels.

EDT Eau de Toilette 5 to 15% perfume oil

The lightest of the three. It opens fresh and fast, but fades after three to five hours. Pleasant in heat and at the office, as long as you top it up during the day.

Our choiceEDP Eau de Parfum ~20% perfume oil

The middle ground that became the standard. It lasts six to eight hours, one spray in the morning is enough, and the scent stays recognisable into the evening without filling the room.

EXDP Extrait de Parfum 20 to 40% perfume oil

The densest form, worn in drops, and it can last over ten hours. In return it loses that easy opening, and the price per bottle climbs the most.

Why we chose EDP

Every Chez Pierre perfume is made in Eau de Parfum concentration, with 20% perfume oil. That is not by accident.

An eau de toilette would mean carrying the bottle with you and refreshing the scent after lunch. An extrait would push the price up, and only someone counting hours would notice the gain. EDP sits exactly in between: one spray in the morning carries the whole working day, and the scent opens and develops instead of settling on the skin at once.

So we don't make lighter and pricier versions of the same scent. We make one, in the concentration where that scent works best.

How many hours the scent stays on skin

Measured from the moment you spray to the moment you can no longer smell it up close. It depends on the concentration, but also on your skin: on dry skin every perfume lasts less, so a dab of unscented cream before spraying helps.

How far it travels around you

Strongest in the first hour, it tells you how much space the scent takes up. Big projection is great for evenings and colder days, while at the office or in a meeting it usually gets in the way more than it helps.

The trail you leave behind

Pronounced „see-yazh“, it means the trail a scent leaves behind you. It is the reason someone turns around as you pass. A perfume can last a long time and still leave a small trail, and the other way round.

Strong is not the same as good. A perfume with huge projection quickly tires both you and the people around you, while one without any trail stays your own private thing.

Tornado works through most of the year, but it suits spring and summer best, when the citrus and ginger opening has room to feel crisp rather than heavy. One spray in the morning is usually enough to last through a full working day.

It is built as a masculine fragrance rather than a feminine one, though a fair number of women wear it too, so it leans closer to unisex than the marketing suggests. Some of our niche perfumes lean softer; this dupe stays intense enough to notice on a cold winter evening. It is at home in the office as much as on a night out, since the dry down stays close to skin rather than filling a room.
