Dior sells Fahrenheit as an eau de parfum, so Sharp Sword matches that concentration rather than a lighter eau de toilette. That is part of why the base holds up as well as it does.

Longevity is 5 to 10 hours. French fragrance oils, handmade in small batches, vegan and never tested on animals, the same as all our fragrances. Not for you? Sharp Sword can be exchanged within 15 days.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Sharp Sword is our perfume dupe of Fahrenheit by Dior, made for men who want that unmistakable violet and leather contrast in a bottle they can wear every week. It opens on citrus and lavender over a spicy nutmeg flower, moves into a violet leaf and honeysuckle heart, and settles on leather, vetiver and tonka bean.

That pairing of florals against leather is the part everyone recognises, an odd, almost metallic contrast that has kept Fahrenheit divisive since the 1980s. The citrus opening fades within the first half hour, then the floral heart takes over before the dry, woody base sets in for the long haul. Projection is strong for the first few hours, then it settles close to the skin, though the trail stays noticeable for the rest of the day.

Fahrenheit is a difficult fragrance to match, which is why there are fewer good perfume dupes of it than of most designer classics. That leather-violet accord shows up as soon as the middle notes take over, well before the patchouli and amber base settles in, and it is rare enough that few other fragrances even attempt it.

Den tätaste formen, bärs i droppar och kan hålla i över tio timmar. I gengäld tappar den lättheten i öppningen, och priset per flaska stiger allra mest.

Varje Chez Pierre-parfym görs i Eau de Parfum-koncentration, med 20% parfymolja. Det är inte en slump.

En eau de toilette skulle betyda att du bär med dig flaskan och fyller på doften på eftermiddagen. En extrait skulle höja priset, och vinsten märks bara av den som räknar timmar. EDP ligger precis mittemellan: ett spray på morgonen bär hela arbetsdagen, och doften öppnar sig och utvecklas i stället för att lägga sig direkt på huden.

Därför gör vi inte lättare och dyrare versioner av samma doft. Vi gör en, i den koncentration där doften fungerar bäst.

Hur många timmar doften sitter kvar på huden

Mäts från stunden du sprayar till stunden du inte längre känner den på nära håll. Det beror på koncentrationen, men också på huden: på torr hud håller varje parfym kortare, så en klick oparfymerad kräm före sprayning hjälper.

Hur långt den sprider sig omkring dig

Starkast under första timmen, och den säger hur mycket plats doften tar. Stor projektion är perfekt för kvällar och kallare dagar, medan den på kontoret och i möten oftast stör mer än den hjälper.

Sillage

Spåret du lämnar efter dig

Uttalas „sijaasch“ och betyder spåret som doften lämnar efter dig. Det är därför någon vänder sig om när du går förbi. En parfym kan hålla länge och ändå lämna ett litet spår, och tvärtom.

Stark är inte samma sak som bra. En parfym med enorm projektion tröttar snabbt ut både dig och människorna omkring dig, medan en helt utan spår förblir din egen ensak.

Sharp Sword belongs to autumn and winter, when the dense, woody base has cold air to push against, though the citrus top keeps it wearable in summer too. One spray in the morning tends to be enough.

Dior built and marketed Fahrenheit as a masculine fragrance, and Sharp Sword keeps that character, bold rather than soft. It works for the office in small doses, but it comes into its own in the evening. Buy it for him and you are on safe ground; buy it for her and it still works, since plenty of women wear leather and violet without wanting anything feminine about it. Close to unisex, in other words.

Dior is a French fashion and perfume house, and Fahrenheit launched in 1988 as one of the first men's fragrances to pair citrus freshness with a heavy, dark base. It remains one of the house's most talked about releases, mentioned in the same breath as its more recent designer and niche competitors.

It sits firmly in designer territory, sold through most major fragrance retailers rather than small independent counters. People who know it say it smells like petrol and flowers over warm wood, which is closer to the truth than it sounds. Fahrenheit still gets plenty of attention on perfume forums, and read any online review of it and the violet-leather pairing is the reason it stands out among luxury perfumes of that era.
